Keith Haring Assignment

Capitol Punishment

Capitol punishment will always be a debatable issue. Hence, there is no use of the "X" symbol which would implicate an obvious stand. I used puzzle pieces to symbolize that I am still quite "puzzled" with where I stand on the issue, because as made apparent in class, people, depending on experience, will have different viewpoints regarding capitol punishment. I did not, however, give much thought into the colors I used. Keith Haring used many colors in his art pieces, and so I attempted to replicate that in mine. The only colors I intended to have meaning are the red X's for the eyes of the figure being "executed" standing for death. I also used orange to represent the electricity running through the figure's body. For this piece I used colored charcoal. I feel that colored charcoal makes more of a bold statement compared to other mediums used in creating art. I feel it creates more depth in art because the colors are much more visible.
